(last update 22nd June 2008)

These 'Real-time Replica' pages have been added to the site to bring you updates and photographs of the latest custom made Quo replica guitars being built by Tony in his workshop in Holbury, near Southampton.

Tony Rockett Custom guitars are totally hand made, and literally begin life as a few pieces of carefully selected wood.

Tony also produces a 'Finesse' range, which are guitars assembled and finished using part-made necks and bodies. This range also includes copies of the Quo guitars, but it is the Custom hand made guitars that will feature on these pages - as long as I can remember my camera when I visit Tony's workshop!

June 2008: Dave's 'Live Aid' Rossi replica is now complete and Tony turns his attention to his other Quo replica orders in the 'Dream Factory'! ...

There are currently three Custom Rossi replica guitars being built by Tony in his workshop. Says Tony: 'Because the orders came in pretty close together, and with having to clear other jobs in order to really begin to progress these projects, all three are now at the same stage of construction and will be built together.'

These are the guitars for David, Gordon and Mark. I believe two are to be copies of the existing 'Cool Rails' configuration, and one will be the three Lace Sensor configuration. All three will be finished 'as new'. I'll do my best to mark which pictures relate to which order, but it just depends how well the pictures are labelled when I receive them!

Early stages of David's body The body is Swamp Ash... ... made up of 3 pieces

The 3-piece body is made as an exact replica of the real thing (Francis's guitar is shown above right * 2)

Tony marks David's body No mistaking who this is for! Early shots of the maple neck

Picture shows the selected piece of maple with the neck template David's 'Cool Rails' Seymour Duncan neck pickup... ..and a shot from the back (for those interested - well I was!)

The bridge and middle position 'Red' & 'Silver' Lace Sensor pickups.. 'Fender Lace Sensor' of course (the 'Lace' box didn't come with the pickups) ... and David's G&L bridge just for good measure.

Early stages of Gordon's body - again 3 pieces of swamp ash just as per the real thing! Gordon's body has been cut..

David's 3-piece body is also taking shape, shown here on top of Gordon's.

David's separate maple finger board and neck on Tony's router. .. and a close up.. Gordon's finger board and neck.

Tony shows me the Graphtec parts.. .. the string guides.. .. and the nuts!

  'Live Aid' Rossi Replica

Says Tony: 'This guitar is to be another replica of the 'Live Aid' configuration of Rossi's guitar, complete with aged hardware and all the appropriate markings. Hopefully Dave will manage to get some pictures of a 'Live Aid' replica on the site this time! This guitar has been three years in the making because I was asked to try and get hold of original 50s/60s parts, i.e. pickups, pots etc. Its all coming together nicely now, but these sorts of parts are not easy to come by, so this will be a pretty special instrument when its finished.'

The 'Live Aid' Rossi special is also taking shape in Tony's workshop..

.. note the amazing attention to detail as the body is being constructed out of three pieces of Swamp Ash sized exactly as per the real thing! 'This particular replica is going to be pretty special, as I've been asked to copy the famous green guitar down to the smallest detail.' The guitar body is routed.

The 'Live Aid' body... front.. .. and back. The body is now in sealer.

Tony gets to work on shaping the neck. No CNC cutters here..

... its all done the traditional way... ... by hand! One beautifully shaped neck!

And from the front. Tony's able assistant Izzy! The 'Live Aid' body is looking good!

As with Kevin's (above) no lacquer has been applied at this point.

Contrast the routings on this body to those for the Lace Sensor configuration.

A close-up shot of the bridge pickup and plate. This particular pickup is an original 1958! Note how the red tape has been added to replicate the detail of the original pickup on Francis's guitar!

The neck pickup is also an original pickup from the 50s, and the above picture shows the back of the unit. The body has now been relic'd.. .. front and back.

A close-up shot of the detail on the back of the body. Another angle, every mark has been faithfully replicated. And shown with the scratch-plate.

Again from another angle.

At the time of Live Aid the neck was displaying a series of wear marks. Once again, Tony has exactly replicated every mark! Amazing stuff!
